ABSTARCT

This thesis is a part of higher diploma degree of general English department at the Lao-Top College with the topic: “Students’ Problems of Studying English: A case study of Lao International College.” As we know well, almost of the countries all around the world use English, an international language, as a second language to communicate. And the part of speech is an also important part of English language.

The objectives of this research are: 

  1. To study the condition and problems in learning English at the college level of Lao-International College in Vientiane Capital.
  2. To study the problems of English speaking of students at The Lao-International College.

This thesis used the questionnaires as a main tool to collect the information and data from the 100 participants at Lao-International College. The questionnaires have 5 main parts. The first part was personal information that consists of seven questions such as gender, age, learner English before, semester, grade, converse and personality. Secondly, the question about factors teaching, there were 7 questions. The third, learner factors, there are 19 questions. The fourthly, factors for promoting and supporting from family, there are 6 questions and the last one speaking problems there are 6 questions. The result data was analyzed by ‘SPSS’ program in order to get the results in percentage and frequency of each item.

The research including five chapters such as chapter 1 was introduction, chapter 2 was literature review, chapter 3 was methodology, chapter 4 was result and chapter 5 was conclusion. The questionnaires were distributed on June, 2020 to the students who were studying at Lao International College in evening session.

The findings of this research, as the collect data was analyzed, we known the factors and reasons that makes the Lao-International College students can’t study English well and also known w to how to improve their English skills. 

I, as a research have been working on this research for four months. However, there might have some mistakes in grammatically. Here, I apologize for those faults and also I hope that this research would be very useful information to students who are interested in similar this topic
